Copper Theft Costs Council Thousands of Rands in Costs to Replace
Copper Theft costs council thousands of rands in costs to replace cables and to repair damaged infrastructure.
The EMPD Anti-Cable Theft and Community Liaison Units arrested five suspects found with stolen cable, around midnight on Wednesday, June 13.
According to Chief Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago, EMPD spokesperson, the cable supplying mining houses situated near the corner of Trichardts and Railway roads in Boksburg had been stolen several times before.
This prompted an investigation and the arrest in one of the mining houses. “The arrested suspects were found in possession of the distribution board which was ripped out at the sub-station and dug out a 7x8m four-core copper cable. The cable had been recently replaced. Stolen copper cables valued at R46 000 was recovered in Boksburg.
