Mark Cowan

by Mark Cowan

JCPL (Jersey Central Power & Light) reported copper theft, and criminal mischief from a lot owned / leased by JCP&L, which was secured from the public and used for business purposes.

Employees further reported damage to the entrance and exit of the substation which is a part of an electrical generation, transmission, and distribution system for JCP&L (Jersey Central Power & Light).

Substations transform voltage from high to low, or the reverse, or perform any of several other important functions. Employees and management from JCP&L reported that after forcing entry into the secured lot, an unknown person or persons were forcibly removing various lengths of copper conduits and various pieces of copper valued at thousands of dollars.

Taking various pieces and lengths of copper damaged various pieces of electrical generation equipment, transformers, and various other electrical equipment within the substation. The Copper theft occurred on July, 10, 2015, July 14, 2015, July 17, 2015, July 20, 2015, August 11, 2015, and August 15.
