Metro Police said a convicted copper thief was critically injured Tuesday morning after he’s accused of attempting copper theft from a Nashville Electric Service substation at Dunn Avenue.

An eyewitness told Fox 17 News he saw the man on top of one of the transformers before the man caught fire and started screaming. The witness called 911 and the man was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center and is critical but stable condition.
